  • Father's Day Prints for Your Old Man

May is half over (boooo....), but where there is Spring, there is also Summer. Whereas May was devoted to all things motherly, June is devoted to all things fatherly. It’s Father’s Day!

Generally, you wouldn’t quite think to get your old man a piece of art for Father’s Day. It’s always some sort of geeky tie, a Blu-Ray, or a new tool for his ever-growing dusty collection in the garage. But I’ve learned from my own dad that fathers want the same sappy mementos as you would bestow on your mother. They may not show it, but that’s how they feel. Soft and sweet on the inside.

So, don’t be afraid this June to get your dad a nice custom wood print for Father’s Day. If there’s a funny vacation photo of you and him somewhere, perhaps trying snowboarding for the first time, or a family BBQ gone haywire, make those silly memories last with a wood print. Even better, hang it up somewhere in the house so that when he sees it, he’ll have a good laugh.

If your dad is the hard-working office type, remember that dads want office pictures too! My own dad loves to add to his small collection of pictures of me and my siblings. The shrine sits on the corner of his desk and when people ask about us, he’s the type that’ll go off on tangents on the recent ridiculous thing we just did the other day. Yeah. What you do at home, gets told in the office. Even I’m thinking of adding a wood print for his collection. I can make it small and personable, or large enough to be noticed when hung on the wall. It’s a long-lasting lovely gift that will never fade and has a touch of class, with the wood grain showing through.

And if your dad is a nature guy and a little skeptical about wood printing, you can tell him all about how our wood is harvested from sustainable wood farms. Every tree that’s cut down gets a new one right in its place, and we also donate to the Plant A Billion foundation with every custom wood print we sell. Guilt-free gifts!

So, take a gander over to our custom wood prints page and create your own print by uploading your photo from Facebook, Instagram, or your own computer. If you don’t have a photo in mind, no problem! We have a large variety of Fine Art Prints to choose from as well; there’s even some Star Wars prints in there too. If he’s into that.

  • May Flowers and Fine Art

Mother’s Day is this weekend, so that means a whole lot of cards, flowers, and chocolates. Like a second Valentine’s Day, but all for moms...

Anyway! It got me thinking about that children’s rhyme, “April Showers bring May Flowers”, which got me thinking about flowers, and how I've been seeing a lot of those in all our Fine Art that we have here.

To start stirring your imagination a little, I’ve gone through our Fine Art showcase and selected a few that I think would be perfect gifts for this springtime fever. They’re fun, edgy, and cute, and feel a lot like ‘May’ to me.

    "Dogwood" by Cuddly Rigor Mortis

Kristin Tercek, a.k.a. Cuddly Rigor Mortis, has a lot of cute work. We’re featuring a lot of her designs here in the Fine Art section, but this one is my favorite. Dogwood is a personification of a dogwood tree, and is just too adorable.

    "Ghost Dawn" by Caia Koopman

Caia’s pieces are always a joy to look at: there’s an air of fragility and peace, but it’s still edgy with sharp lines and pastel colors. This one is the most tame of her pieces, I think, so if you want something edgier, definitely check out her stuff in the Fine Art section.

    "Night Owl" by Jeremiah Ketner

His ‘Owl’ series is great, so check out the two other owl buddies we have in Fine Art.

    "Hey Captain" by Tim Shumate

    heycaptain

Just look at that! If that doesn’t shout May to you, I don’t what it is. Funny how the cat has fangs, yet it’s still adorable.

Aaaand since summer is just around the corner...

“The Pool Party” by Octopus Tree House

Because, you know, Star Wars is coming back with a seventh film. How ‘bout that?

Alright, leave me be now. I'm going to peruse through more of these prints and croon over them like a student on a low budget.

     art!

  • The Wood Wedding Anniversary

Weddings are definitely a cause for celebration. There’s all sorts of traditions to adhere to, such as the bouquet toss, drunk best man speeches, sappy first dance love songs, and so on and so forth. You would think that after all that merry-making and hullabaloo that the festivities would stop there. Every anniversary would just be an excuse to have an expensive steak dinner.

BUT. The ball doesn’t stop rolling after the wedding. I’m talking about traditional wedding anniversary gifts. And what, in good graces, are those about?

Back in the days of the Roman Empire, husbands would give silver laurel wreaths to their wives on their 25th wedding anniversary, and then a gold one on their 50th. It’s grown since then, especially in England, when the king himself would send well-wishes to couples on their 50th, 60th, and 70th wedding anniversary. Today, you can ask for a greeting from the President any anniversary after your 50th. Fancy that.

As the times progressed and the markets changed, every anniversary soon received a symbolic gift that goes along with it. There’s the ol’ silver and gold, but also paper, tin (Why??), cotton, clocks, sugar,  diamond, and lace. But today, we’re only going to talk about the Wood Anniversary. Traditionally, it’s the fifth wedding anniversary.

When that time rolls around, it’s not a bad idea to give our Fine Art wood prints a try. We’ve got lots to choose from your favorite artists, or perhaps ones that your significant other admires. There’s also the option to customize your own wood print entirely! Upload a picture from Facebook or Instagram: selfies, funny poses, or stylized photos of the two of you together. Upload a wedding picture or maybe a Throwback Thursday portrait from high school. Whichever you prefer, reset assured that it’ll look fabulous on a wood print. We have prints available in various sizes, but also an new addition: the wooden sign. With wooden signs, you can create a custom cut print: no more squares and rectangles, just fun shapes and sizes.

Check out our wooden signs page, and see how you can declare your undying love to the world! At least until the next year, when you have to figure out what to get for the Iron Anniversary...seriously?
