Welcome to Prints on Wood!

Monthly Archives: February 2017

We wanted to share with you a special project our good friend Caia Koopman has found so important she is spending the next year of her life 100% dedicated to it.  Casson Trenor and Caia Koopman are working on a super fun, and super important project and they need YOUR HELP! They have joined forces to create UMIJOO, and informative children's book with a message that focuses on the importance of the Ocean and the relationship between the human race and this eco system.

UMIJOO is the story of a young girl who embarks on a magical journey underwater, where she learns the increasing pressure the world's ocean faces against overfishing, dumping, and habitat destruction. UMIJOO will feature brand new, one of a kind Caia Koopman paintings, helping to weave the world of UMIJOO into existence, one page at a time.

While Casson and Caia have begun working on this project already, they started an initiative on Patreon to help fund the ambitious project. Over the next year, the UMIJOO Book Project hopes to raise 40k to fund this project that will enlighten and educate children of all ages about the very importance of ocean conservation.

Like most crowd funded projects, backers can receive a wide array of benefits such as artwork sneak peaks, signed prints, lapel pins, and various other small gifts depending on the amount of their donation. (I don't know about you, but that octopus pin is pretty sweet!)  Join us as we support Caia and Casson in this journey with UMIJOO.

  • AIR + STYLE 2017 RECAP

This past weekend, PRINTS ON WOOD set up shop smack dab in the middle of Shaun White's AIR + STYLE Music Festival in Downtown Los Angeles. Like some of you, I wasn't able to attend, so I decided to do what any normal person in my situation would do... jailbreak my bosses phone so I could go through his pictures and see what he did over the weekend.

Ever wonder what would happen to someone if they sneezed, coughed, and farted all at the same time? They'd turn into a Matt Gondek painting.

I don't know about you, but something about the art of James Haunt makes me want to put on a pair of leg warmers while listening to Duran Duran at a nail salon.

James Haunt, Teddy Kelly, Matt Gondek, and This Means Mar getting ready to drop the hottest mixtape of 2017.

BumbleBeeLovesYou painting bee-hind a couple of honeys.

I can't think of a wood joke that won't get me fired.

StarfighterA starting on her mural with a little wheatpaste.

If West Hollywood was a car.

How going to a concert feels when you're in your 30's.

While once viewed as juvinile criminals spray painting their self imposed nicknames in back alleys all over the world, Graffiti Artists have transcended pop culture, allowing them to hold down real jobs using their artistic talents in an office during the day, while still making their mark in the streets at night.

Teddy Kelly is one such artist. Born and raised in Mexico, and inspired by skateboarding and surf culture, Teddy has built an impressive resume as an Art Director. Building the brands of companies such as Forest Skateboards, Ambiguous Clothing, and Maverick / Live Nation.

Graduating from character based compositions, Teddy begun shifting his artistic sights into a specialized blend of style and symmetry, resulting in gorgeous geometry based prismatic pop-art. Drawing inspiration from everyday life, Teddy combines his experience and surroundings to communicate his perspective, hoping to inspire others the way he's been inspired throughout his entire life.

  • ARTIST SPOTLIGHT: Christina Angelina / StarfighterA

Unlike the awesome 80s movie The Last Star Fighter, StarFighterA doesn't actually fly around outer space, but her art IS out of this world! (Hur hur)

Hailing from the sandy shores of Venice Beach, StarFighterA (aka Christina Angelina), started painting professionally around the age of 15 and hasn't stopped since. Her unique talents have taken her all over the world, allowing her to paint in exotic locales such as Brazil, Germany, and Ireland to name a few.

Christina's artwork ostensibly features a reoccurring theme presented in new and beautiful ways with each new painted piece ... gorgeous introspective women seemingly lost in thought.

As one of the most prominent artists in the world of live painting, we're proud to announce that Christina Angelina will be joining us at this years Air + Style event in Downtown Los Angeles. Christina will be live painting alongside fellow LA street artists BumbleBeeLovesYou and James Haunt.

If Lisa Frank and Patrick Nagel had a baby, it still wouldn’t have been as awesome as James Haunt. Exploding with passion and, oozing neon colors, the sultry work of James Haunt is like Pop Rocks + Coke  for your eyes.

Based out of Los Angeles, James Haunt feasts on a steady diet of skateboarding and UFOs. His talent has taken him all over the Golden State, allowing him to spread his vivid viewpoint throughout the streets of California.

Having worked with James over and over again in the past, that’s why we’re bringing him back to the Air + Style Festival this year in his hometown of LA!

With a namesake inspired by an inside joke amongst friends about a striped t-shirt from Hot Topic, BumbleBeeLovesYou decided to stop drawing indoors and went outside to start sharing his art with everyone, including YOU, who he apparently loves.

While everyone is going around town trying to make a name for themselves by slapping bootleg Bart Simpson stickers on street signs, or wheatpasting heavy handed political posters on the side of electrical boxes, BumbleBeeLovesYou specializes in an wholesome style of street art… kids being kids doing kid stuff!

BumbleBeeLovesYou is like the Bob Ross of street art. His artwork makes us feel all warm and fuzzy inside, that's why we're bringing him back to Air & Style this year. BumbleBeeLovesYou will be live painting a mural outside our booth, where we'll be giving away free mini wood prints of his work. Hope to see you there! Don't forget, we love YOU too. :P
