Despite the fact that every camera manufacturer provides an Auto Focus feature on all of their current products, a shaky hand can make the difference between a blurry image and a sharp one. The best way to alleviate this issue is to use a tripod when shooting photographs.
Some mental preparation can also be of assistance. If you count down from three silently and take a deep breath before shooting a photo, it can help maintain a steady hand when a picture is taken. Even if an image has a small amount of grain or blur, this fuzziness can still be transferred onto wood. Keep in mind that a sharp, clean photograph is ideal for printing.
When taking photographs, be aware of the amount of light focused on your subject matter. Even though most current cameras have an Auto Flash feature that determines when a flash is necessary based on the amount of light present when a picture is taken, sometimes the end result can be too bright.
If this is the case, a good rule of thumb is to take an additional photograph with the flash turned off.
If opting out of the Bright White finish option for your wood print, all the white in an image like this one will become transparent, making the wood base more prominent. This could affect image clarity.
If not enough light is present when a photo is taken, it can result in a picture that's too dark. Take into consideration that a blank wood canvas is several shades darker than paper or a wood print containing our new Bright White finish option. Therefore, printing a dark photo on wood can result in a loss of detail.
This can be avoided by either using the Flash feature on your camera, focusing more light on your subject matter, or photographing in an area with more natural light if possible.
Here's a good example of an ideal photo to use for printing. It contains a good balance of light and focus, the subject matter is clear and the colors are vibrant.
